Autism Spectrum Disorder
While the symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder vary greatly from person to person, the common link is a significant impairment in the ability for reciprocal social interaction. It is most important for children who may be suffering from Autism to have a comprehensive assessment to determine the exact level and particulars of a wide range of symptoms. This kind of assessment involves a clinical interview with the child, when possible, and with parents and all other caregivers and educators. It also involves administration of very specific psychological tests and measures, such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Scale, which both Dr. Valentin and Dr. Blackstock are qualified to administer.
Dr. Edward Blackstock is well known as one of the pioneers of mapping the neurological causes and correlates of Autism. Dr. Irina Valentin is currently a leading expert in the assessment and intervention of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, a service she has in the past and currently provides to a number of school boards in Ontario.
